Reflection
While I didn't gain a lot of experience in this area during my practicum for administration, I was attentive to this competency as a classroom teacher. I teach American and World History. The nation and world is more polarized than ever. People lack empathy skills and fail to understand people and the world around them. I have included my Welcome Back presentation that I present to my students at the beginning of every year. As you go through the presentation, it demonstrates my educational philosophy that each student should and will be treated fairly and respectfully. My classes will recognize, respect, and employ each students' strengths, diversity, and culture as assets for teaching and learning. I have also included a culture and identity lesson I teach my students as we learn about each other to create a family-type atmosphere. This is also done at the beginning of the year. An experience I did gain through my practicum was creating curriculum for Laker Time, our advisory program. This is the other Google Slide presentation embedded under the artifacts. The curriculum focused on social-emotional learning. This ensured that each student had access to academic and social support.
Once again, I have included the Minnewaska Induction Mentor Program in the artifacts. This program allows me to educate teachers new to the district on equity, institutional biases, and practices that influence and encourage positive behavior along with responding to behaviors in a appropriate and professional manner.
